Dîner en Blanc

Dîner en Blanc. A growing worldwide dining experience which consists of fantastic food and ice cool clothing in an outdoor setting during Summer with friends and friends we haven’t met yet, what’s not to like?!

Dîner en Blanc?! What the hell is this I hear you ask! Yes, I shall admit I was wondering the same thing when this opportunity was presented to me. I was inspired to write a piece regarding Diner en Blanc by the fine folks over at The Black Tux.com with the launch of their White Dinner Jacket, and Dîner en Blanc seemed like the perfect occasion!

As I began my research for the blog post I discovered a truly innovative dining experience. An idea so simple yet so elegant and exclusive! Dîner en Blanc happens just once a year in Summer time. Hundreds and thousands of people around the world get dressed in their best white clothes (on the subject of white, discover my white jeans tips here!) and meet in a public location. They share dinner with friends and strangers with the only requirement being you must be dressed in white! Simple! The list of cities participating (for example New York, L.A., Las Vegas and Miami in the U.S., Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid and London in Europe, South America, Africa, Australia, Asia and the Middle East, a truly global experience!) in Dîner en Blanc is truly amazing and some of the World’s greatest landmarks are represented too. This is certainly a new bucket list addition people. Take a look at the website here http://dinerenblanc.info. Its incredible! The origins of Diner en Blanc are humble too which makes its global rise all the more spectacular!

Sooooooooooo this brings us along to the question what would you wear if you were invited to such a Dîner en Blanc event?! Never fear Fashionable Frank is here with the answer, white of course (10 points for whoever got that right!). However the next question is do you or rent? A dilemma indeed! Check out The Black Tux.com for some great rental options. I think rent if you are unsure you will wear white again.

This White Tuxedo Jacket ticks all the boxes. Its white. Its also got some great features like silk grosgrain peak lapels (very Diner en Blanc I think you’ll agree!). Here are some photos for inspiration! A very slick looking Jacket.

A crisp white shirt will be needed too. Check out The Black Tux.com selection of shirts. My favourite is this crisp white cotton one. It would compliment the White Tuxedo Jacket perfectly. Whether to wear the shirt open collared or wear a bow tie is the next question, I think a black bowtie for a contrast. Bend the rules slightly!

What to wear for your bottom half may prove problematic. I suggest white jeans or chinos. Nothing too formal. I think white ripped jeans for a funky take on formal! There’s no rules in Menswear at the minute, the bolder the better!

I suggest plimsolls (pumps) or tennis shoes. Lacoste trainers for example. There is something for very Blanc (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) about Lacoste trainers!

What would Fashionable Frank wear to a Dîner en Blanc event?! Prepare to be dazzled!

I love this jacket! It so suave looking I can see myself ordering a Martini……….shaken, not stirred! This Jacket just looks amazing! I want one! I would wear the polka dot bowtie too.

I can see this working. Its a pity I can’t illustrate my point by providing the photographic evidence for you. In the near future perhaps! Anyway, my way with words will just have to convince you. The ripped skinny jeans add a funky trendy addition to the outfit. It completely with the formal style jacket but it would work……….maybe not with the bowtie. I would need to try that on just to be sure. A crisp white shirt with black buttons would do the trick though!

These need no introduction. They are Lacoste. They are white. They look incredible!

I hope you enjoyed this Diner en Blanc inspired post! I hope to attend one in the near future! If I do I shall of course write a post about my adventure!

I’ve been Fashionable Frank and you have been fantastic!
