River Island. 2 words that need no introduction to any fashion conscious male and females reading this. I was fortunate to receive an invite to the River Island Spring Summer 2017 walk-thru event at their flagship Grafton Street store in Dublin.Thanks to the wonderful River Island PR team for the invitation to this Press Day in particular Emma and Alison, I really appreciate it!

I was warmly greeted on arrival and there were cocktails (I had a stiffy cola cocktail and my God was it strong!), finger food, goodie bags and a customised Passport holder! What else could a man want? However, enough about me. Let the Fashion Show commence!

The excesses of the party season are a distant memory, unfortunately the over indulgence isn’t for some of us including me! The New Year Resolutions are in full flow and the last thing on our minds at the moment is SpringSummer! January Pay Day is! Santa (my favourite S word) is no longer the buzz word. The aforementioned Spring is, quickly followed by Summer. In fact British Summer Time is only 66 days away! (I know!) That means longer evenings, better weather (hopefully) and perhaps even the prospect of baking to a golden brown on the beach in the foreign sun are rapidly approaching! Of course, a change in the seasons can mean only one thing, time to refresh your wardrobe.

River Island have some great outfit inspiration. I had a browse around the Ilac Centre and Grafton Street River Island stores and snapped some of my favourite outfits;

As we can see from the pretty pictures the tones of our outfits have changed. Its all about layering at the moment with a pop of colour. Start introducing lighter hues into your outfits from now on in particular light pink, mint green and cobalt blues – these are classic Spring Summer colours and they are also perfect for providing the desired colour pop or contrast we desire.

So what are we going to be wearing for Spring Summer 2017?! River Island have a host of new trends for us to consider wearing. I’m a big fan of the Tonal Layering.

For Spring/Summer 2017, River Island focuses on clean silhouettes, premium fabrics and technical design features. Contemporary sportswear and chic casual pieces are paired with an array of everyday essentials for a versatile summer look. Neutral and earthy tones of khaki, tobacco and mushroom are complimented by flushes of red, cobalt blue and mint green for a fresh colour palette that breathes new life into every man’s wardrobe.

DEUTSCHLAND is a chic fusion of relaxed tailoring and vintage sportswear. 90’s inspired clothing are realised in a muted colour palette of camel and tobacco tones with pops of brilliant red and indigo. Fitted block colour knits, striped track-tops and stone-washed denim reference cult Brit Pop icons, offset by the modern aesthetic of the nylon varsity jacket and cropped tailored trousers.

MILITARY SPORT brings a fresh take on the military trend. Oversized hoodies, double-faced checked shirts and laundered tees appear in a plethora of rich purples, pinks and greys to help achieve a relaxed, layered feel. Technical hardware such as functional patch pockets and contrasting zip tape inspired by traditional military detailing add an authentic touch. The iconic MA1 bomber jacket is a hero piece from the collection, dress it with statement graphic sweaters and cotton cargo pants for an effortlessly cool look.

CALIFORNICATION combines subtle neutral tones with bursts of pastel blue, coral and tie-dye; layered beneath a variety of textures offers a cleaner take on the 90’s skater boy aesthetic. Bleached denim jackets, heavily washed denim shirts and ripped denim shorts, draw inspiration from the West Coast grunge era, teamed with printed psychedelic hoodies and tropical printed shirts.

VENICE is this season’s resort tailoring offering. Single and double-breasted jackets, Cuban collar striped shirts and slick accessories come in a variety of seasonal shades of soft blue and dusty pink. Engineered striped knits, pique tees and a variety of stylish separates are a chic addition, while the navy seersucker short suit is the ultimate alternative to formal suiting.

BOHEMIAN ROCK balances quality design with razor sharp cuts of premium tailoring and a hint of rock n’ roll. Distressed skinny jeans and bleached denim jackets in masculine shades of washed grey and black are paired with opulent jewel tone silk shirts that evoke a subtle elegance whilst the suede bike jacket is perfect for that off-duty evening look.

Bored of words?! Lets have a look at what the words mean. DANGER! There are some great outfits on the way – viewing may cause the sensation known as Impulse Buying!
