How To Wear Neutrals Header Image

I love OCTOBER! The weather is usually good. Cool, crisp and sunny days. The leaves are a beautiful golden rust colour. The colours at this time of year are amazing. It is also cool enough for key Autumn/Winter pieces to be used once again and dry enough to appreciate them in all their cosy splendour!

NEUTRAL TONES

The menswear colour palette is dominated by neutral tones at the moment. To be specific the “new neutrals” of camel, grey, beige and white! What the hell are neutral tones I hear you cry?! I have included a picture…..since it speaks a thousand words! These “new neutrals” are the colours of Autumn 2016. Probably Winter too although The Party Season will have its own set of colours to choose from! Remember Khaki/Green was the colour of A/W 15 and continued into S/S16 so investing in key Neutral tone pieces will see through to this time next year I think.

KEY PIECES

The “new neutrals” colour palette covers some of the key pieces of Autumn/Winter 2016. Think Coats/Jackets, Knitwear, Shirts, Jeans, Accessories and of course Footwear. New trend pieces and colours can be difficult to style however never fear as Fashionable Frank is here to show you how! Before we begin what are the key pieces for Autumn/Winter 2016? I think it is the following pieces although a trip to the shops or browsing online will confirm! First up;

THE TAN OVERCOAT

The Tan Overcoat is THE key Outerwear piece for this season! The good news is they are available almost everywhere and are not badly priced either! For some tips check out my “A guide to buying Outerwear” post. The Tan Overcoat is a great investment. It can be dressed up or down looking equally as good in either scenario. This piece is easily transferrable for The Party Season too or any other Autumn/Winter formal engagements (weddings, christenings, races etc) you have coming up. I have opted for a street style look in this post just to highlight the versatility of it! You can find my Tan Overcoat on the River Island website here.

THE BOMBER JACKET

The Bomber Jacket craze shows no signs of slowing down yet. In fact it has reached saturation levels meaning there is an abundance of options to choose from. In a situation like this its always a good idea to seek out different colours. Utilising the “new neutrals” colour palette I decided to go for this White Bomber Jacket from River Island for a couple of reasons. 1) White works with everything! 2) its a piece which will transition easily from Autumn to Spring/Summer therefore you have value for your hard earned cash! 3) I love white. This Bomber Jacket looks great with black too. Avid readers will know I love a contrast in my outfits. However the purpose of this blog post is “HOW TO WEAR…NEUTRALS” so I have styled The Bomber Jacket in the “new neutrals” colour palette for you. You can find my Bomber Jacket on the River Island website here.

THE TAN COLOURED CARDIGAN

The Cardigan is a greatly underused piece in the Autumn/Winter wardrobe of most men. When shopping for my Cardigan I knew I want something in the “new neutrals” colour palette. Something that would brighten up my outfit. In most cases pairing a Cardigan with something as simple as a white t-shirt results in a very fashionable outfit like I have done here! The Cardigan is a great versatile piece which not only helps with layering it also provides warmth. Warmth and style – what more could a fashionista hope for?! You can find my Cardigan on the River Island website here.

THE CAMEL COLOURED BLAZER

The Blazer is a piece featured often on fashionablefrank.com! I simply love The Blazer! I picked up this Camel Coloured Blazer from Burton Menswear a couple of Seasons back (I think A/W14) and it has served me well since especially for this post regarding the “new neutrals” colour palette! For me, a Blazer is in this colour is well worth investing in as it really does go with everything from black to grey to white! I have opted to for a street style look to highlight its versatility! Rolling the sleeves up and wearing some accessories always works when trying to dress a formal piece down! (You heard it here first!). You can pick up a similar Blazer to mine from at Burton Menswear here.

FASHIONISTAS FIX

“Fashionistas Fix” is an element of blog posts where I suggest high fashion/fashion forward outfits for the more daring mens fashion enthusiasts. This time I have opted for styling a Bomber Jacket inside a Tan Overcoat to create THE ultimate “new neutrals” colour palette “Sports Luxe” outfit! (a tongue twister!) As we can see it works really well. Why??? The versatility of both the Bomber Jacket and Tan Overcoat is really highlighted here. This is proof that both pieces are investments which are capable of transcending different seasons, in particular the White Bomber. The Tan Overcoat looks great with everything no matter what season it is! Head over to my instagram account fashionable_frank for more outfit inspiration!
